US Lacrosse is currently accepting applications for the 2016-17 season. The deadline to apply is Monday, November 21, 2016 at 5 p.m. ET.
The core purpose of the program is to create long-term partnerships between US Lacrosse and First Stick teams and to support the growth of lacrosse nationally, at all youth levels and at all stages of organizational development. This partnership will create self-sustaining programs that will operate by US Lacrosse national standards and best practices at the completion of the program. Click here to learn more and apply
Cape Ann Youth Lacrosse started its Adaptive Lacrosse Program during the spring of 2013. The Adaptive Lacrosse Program was designed to provide girls and boys with physical, learning and/or cognitive disabilities the chance to learn the game of lacrosse in an appropriate environment. The program has been structured to have middle and high school lacrosse players from the local community area teamed as a “buddy” or “mentor” for our adaptive players. Our mentors assist in adapting skills and teaching methods to the needs of several of our adaptive players.
This program can not succeed without the hard work and dedication of our volunteer mentors. Our program is funded through a grant from the Eastern Mass Chapter US Lacrosse and from private donations. It is through this generosity that we are able to rent a turf field, and provide equipment and uniforms for our players.
We run our program for 8 weeks beginning in early April. We meet each Sunday from 2 to 3:30 pm. We wrapped up our second successful season with a pizza party and medal ceremony for the mentors, players and their families. Each year we have continued to grow and we look forward to our third season in the spring of 2015. The pure joy that this program brings each participant (players, mentors, parents and volunteers) is truly amazing. It has truly been a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Sunday is all of our “favorite day of the week.” CAYL-Adaptive Lacrosse ROCKS!!
