September 30, 2015 - The Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of US Lacrosse is recognized for its tremendous leadership in supporting the lacrosse community and its success in increasing the chapter’s visibility throughout the region. The chapter, led by President Kevin McDonald and a board comprised of representatives from Eastern Massachusetts lacrosse constituent organizations, is US Lacrosse’s largest chapter with just over 40,000 members. The Eastern Massachusetts Chapter provides local grants, coaches education, communications and events, among other programs and services.
A fundamental initiative of the Eastern Massachusetts chapter has been to provide grants to local programs in order to continue the growth of lacrosse. The chapter helped support the first annual Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Convention. The chapter has done a remarkable job continuously supporting programs that fall within US Lacrosse’s Diversity & Inclusion initiative. This year, the chapter granted US Lacrosse memberships to 478 members of Metro Lacrosse, an inner city youth lacrosse program.
The need for knowledgeable and experienced lacrosse coaches is greater than ever before. With two of the largest youth lacrosse leagues in their region, MBYLL and MBGLL, the Chapter has developed a close relationship with the leagues and provides support through coaches and officials education. In 2015, the chapter supported eight Men’s Level 1 MBYLL/USL Coaches Education Program (CEP) classes, serving 480 coaches, and hosted two CEP Level 1 and 2 men’s classes. Additionally, the chapter supported three Women’s Level 1 and Level 2 CEP classes.
The Eastern Massachusetts Chapter has worked steadily to increase its visibility through numerous outlets. In July, the chapter hosted its inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Boston Cannons game at Gillette Stadium, inducting 26 members. Also this summer, the chapter supported a Shootout for Soldiers event in Boston through a donation and by setting up a chapter tent to hand out informational pamphlets during the event. One of the many accomplishments the chapter is proud of is its work to develop a marketing partnership with the Boston Cannons. Under this partnership, a shared intern, managed by the Cannons, is helping communicate Chapter, US Lacrosse and constituent information on the chapter’s Twitter, Facebook and website.
